Antique Donath Dresden Chocolate Cup & Saucer, Portrait

This porcelain chocolate cup and saucer was produced in Germany by the Donath Dresden
Studio in the 1890s.  The saucer has a diameter of 5 3/8 inches.  The cup is 3 1/8 inches tall with a diameter of 3 inches without the handle.  The cup features a graceful empire style handle. The ground color is iridescent ruby red.  There are two reserves on the cup containing hand painted portraits of 18th century ladies.  They are painted with beautiful detail, showing all of their fineries such as  fancy powdered wigs, lace and furs.  The portraits are framed in shiny gold with beaded flowers.  The saucer and cup have raised gold flowers scattered around.  The rest of the surfaces have strands of raised gilding filling in the entire area.  The rims and handle are richly gilded.  This is a high quality, artistically designed cup and saucer you would be proud to own.  #C448
