Description
The Grand Antique Mall, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, presents a1864 CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA Large 3-1/4” x 7-1/4” Bank Note
. This seventh (and last) issue of Confederate currency was authorized on February 17, 1864. Each note was individually hand signed and numbered, and hand cut with scissors.
OBVERSE:
Confederate Capitol in Richmond, Virginia. Lower right porthole shows the portrait of Confederate Secretary of the Treasury, C. G. Memminger. Upper right, hand written, is serial number 24104. “Lithography by Evans & Cogswell” on right side and “Engraved by Keating & Ball, Columbia., S.C.” lower center. Upper right has date Feb 17, 1864.
REVERSE:
Intricate
design featuring written FIVE in the center. Above and below is a written FIVE. The number 5 is in each corner.
HISTORIC NOTE:
Following Abraham Lincoln's assassination, a physician found, in the president’s pocket, an 1864 Confederate Note (like the one listed).
CONDITION:
VERY FINE. Fresh and crisp. Red and green colors bright. No tears or creases. Corners intact. 1 light fold.
2 minor pinholes visible when note held to light.
Mild soiling on reverse. Fine example of Confederate currency rich in history.
